Your local workplace induction is coordinated by your supervisor and is about the ‘who, what, where, when and how’ of your immediate working environment. The following schedule outlines the activities that both you and your supervisor are expected to complete by the end of each stage.
Day 1
In your first day you will undertake a number of settling in activities. Your supervisor will greet you at an arranged time and:
- show you around the immediate work area and facilities
- introduce you to colleagues
- discuss the scope and duties of the role
- discuss the local area’s practices and expectations, such as hours of work and communication practices
- outline essential Safety and Wellbeing
information such as:
- local evacuation procedures,
- reporting accidents and incidents(HIRO)

- outline the local administrative procedures including:
- local computer systems
- mail systems
- ordering supplies
- equipment (eg photocopiers)
- arrange business cards
, mobile phones and any other special requirements you might need
- provide you with a personalised Induction plan to guide you through UTS
Week 1
During your first week your supervisor will meet with you and:
- discuss in greater detail how your role fits into UTS’s overall activities
- provide you with more information on the Faculty/Unit structure and policy, and services
- confirm workplace practices, expectations and culture
- discuss the probation process
- expand on the role of other staff members
- provide details about specific tasks you are required to perform in your role
- provide details about specific UTS policies and procedures
- ensure your local workplace IT systems
are activated - ensure your compliance training has commenced
1st month
Throughout your first month you will meet regularly with your supervisor to:
- expand on workplace rules and regulations
- clarify your role and responsibilities
- provide feedback on work performed
- discuss and finalise your probation workplan
- introduce you to key contacts and identify network opportunities
- make connections with equity
networks, eg Indigenous Staff Network, Women@UTS - take a campus tour

2-6 months +ongoing
As you progress through the first six months and beyond, you will continue to meet with your supervisor to:
- receive regular feedback on performance
- ensure you have completed all compliance training specific to your role
- discuss your professional development needs
