Asking candidates to formally address Selection Criteria as part of the process is not an essential requirement at UTS. In some cases it can be an useful filtering tool. However, for the majority of support positions it can often deter good candidates who can apply for many other jobs online in the time it takes to address the Selection Criteria.
It is often more effective to ask candidates to undertake this task as part of their interview preparations. At this stage they know they have an increased chance of securing the job, which justifies investing the time required to complete the task.
If you have requested candidates to complete this task it is important to review the information in the interview. This helps ensure the examples are genuine and draws out missing information that candidates did not necessarily realise was relevant.
