Staff may be employed on a full-time, part-time, part-year (applies to support staff and senior staff) or sessional (applies to academic staff) basis. These are “modes of employment” and are defined within the relevant collective agreement. Further information about part-year and sessional employment is available from the Sessional (Academic) and Part-Year (Support) Employment - Fact Sheet in the HR Manual.
Staff employed in accordance with one of the above mentioned modes of employment will be appointed in accordance with one of the following “categories of appointment”:
- continuing appointment
- fixed-term appointment
- casual appointment
- reversionary appointment (applies to Academic Staff)
There are particular arrangements associated with the Appointment of Deans, Associate Deans, Heads of School and Heads of Department (and equivalent positions) which are set out within the relevant Appointment Directive (refer to HR Manual, Section 3, Recruitment Selection and Appointment).
The University can also engage people to perform functions through the following arrangements:
- secondments and exchanges (refer to the Secondment and Exchanges Directive in the HR Manual)
- temporary agency staff
- contractors or consultants
- honorary or visiting appointments
All staff employed at UTS must have the right to work in Australia and provide documentary evidence as requested. This could include an Australian birth certificate, Certificate of Australian citizenship; Australian or New Zealand passport; evidence of permanent resident status, or temporary visa with entitlement to work.
