Academic and support staff may be employed on a casual basis. Casual appointments can be made by invitation or nomination or through a competitive recruitment and selection process
Casual Support Appointments
Casual support staff are usually employed for a short period or for a longer period on irregular hours. To appoint casual support staff the following form should be completed by the staff member and supervisor:
Casual support staff must have the right to work in Australia and documentary evidence should be attached to the form. This could include an Australian birth certificate, Certificate of Australian citizenship; Australian or New Zealand passport; evidence of permanent resident status, or temporary visa with entitlement to work.
In order to receive payment, casual support staff must submit a claim via Employee Self Service using online pay claims
Casual support staff may be eligible to apply for conversion to a continuing or fixed-term appointment after 12 or 24 months service.
Casual Academic Appointments
To appoint a casual academic a Casual Academic Employment Contract should be completed through the neo HR/Payroll system. Each Faculty has a designated officer with responsibility for preparing the contract through neo.
Casual academic staff are required to have the right to work in Australia and documentary evidence should be collected and sent to Payroll as part of the appointment process. This could include an Australian birth certificate, Certificate of Australian citizenship; Australian or New Zealand passport; evidence of permanent resident status, or temporary visa with entitlement to work.
Once casual employment contracts are signed and submitted to the Payroll Office, FSU casual academic staff will be paid in accordance with their contracts. There is no need to submit regular pay claims. If all contract hours set out within the contract are not completed (for example if a schedule class is cancelled), a Variation of Contract form must be completed and forwarded to Payroll.
