Introduction
The Academic Promotion Vice-Chancellor's Directive (HR Manual 5.11) sets out the process by which eligible academics may seek promotion and the criteria against which academic staff will be assessed for promotion.
Submitting an Application for Promotion
- Check that you are eligible to apply (refer to Academic Promotion Vice-Chancellor's Directive).
- Carefully consider the criteria for promotion and how you would demonstrate that you meet the criteria.
- Discuss your intention to apply with your academic supervisor. You should ask for your supervisor’s opinion on whether you are ready to apply. Your academic supervisor can review and comment on your draft application.
- Attend IML and E&DU information sessions, and/or contact IML or an academic mentor for advice and assistance.
- Ensure your Dean is aware of your intention to apply for promotion and give them sufficient time to review your application before the due date.
- Email your complete application to Melissa Kowal in the Human Resources Unit (melissa.kowal@uts.edu.au), and
- Submit 10 bound copies of your application to the Human Resources Unit (Level 6, Building 10, City Campus)
Please note: Extensions to the application due date will NOT be given where an applicant has not provided their Supervisor and Dean with sufficient time to review and endorse their application. Please ensure your application is with your Supervisor at least one week prior to the due date.
Promotion to Senior Lecturer 2012
- Applications close 5pm Friday 4 May
- Committee to meet in July
- Promotions will be effective 1 July 2012
Promotion to Associate Professor 2012
- Applications close 5pm Friday 24 August
- Short listing will occur in November
- Interviews will occur in November
- Quota for 2012 will be 12
- Promotions will be effective 1 January 2013
Promotion to Professor 2012
- Applications close 5pm Friday 24 August
- Short listing will occur in November
- Interviews will occur in November
- Quota for 2012 will be 5
- Promotions will be effective 1 January 2013
Referees' Report
- Please ensure your Referees are aware that they will be contacted by UTS and are available to submit a report shortly after the application closing date.
Appeals Process
Applicants may lodge an appeal within 7 days of receiving notification of the Committee’s decision. Appeals must be on the grounds that the Committee did not follow due process. Appeals will be handled according to the Academic Promotion Vice-Chancellor's Directive (HR Manual 5.11).
