Academic and support salary increases
Incremental progression
Academic and Support staff are paid within a range determined by their current classification. If a staff member is not currently being paid at the top of the range, staff may be eligible for salary increases in the form of incremental progression.
- Support staff progress through the incremental scale that they are appointed to by participating in the Annual Performance and Development Review process and following an assessment of satisfactory performance by their supervisor. Incremental progression usually occurs on the Unit Increment Date (UID) of your work unit. Each work unit has a UID of either 1 April or 1 October. New staff, staff appointed to a new role or staff who have their positions reclassified must complete 6 months in the role prior to their area’s UID to be considered for incremental progression
- For example a support staff member appointed at level HEW 5, step 1 can progress through step 2, 3, 4, 5 to 6 subject to an assessment of satisfactory performance by their supervisor.

- Academic staff are eligible to progress through the incremental scale they are appointed to on the completion of 12 months service. Progression is based on an assessment of satisfactory performance through participation in the Annual Performance and Development Review or as part of a progress review, depending on the timing of completion of 12 months’ service.
- For example an academic staff member appointed at level B (Lecturer), step 1 can progress through step 2, 3, 4, 5 to 6 subject to an assessment of satisfactory performance by their supervisor.
