The information below is an overview of leave without pay (LWOP) entitlements and arrangements. Full details of LWOP can be located in the Leave Without Pay Guidelines. This overview does not apply to sick LWOP or parental LWOP.
Eligibility and entitlement
LWOP may be granted at the discretion of the University.
LWOP does not break continuity of service but may affect the accrual of entitlements and conditions.
Applying for LWOP
It is important that you read the Leave Without Pay Guidelines if you are considering LWOP.
You should provide at least six months notice of LWOP. Your supervisor has the authority to approve or decline an application for LWOP for periods up to and including three months. A Dean/Director or equivalent must approve applications for LWOP exceeding three months. Apply for this approval by submitting a Leave Without Pay form to Payroll.
Variations to LWOP must be made by completing a Variation of Leave form.
