The information below is an overview of sick leave entitlements and arrangements. Full details of sick leave can be located in the Sick Leave Guidelines and in the relevant Collective Agreement

Eligibility and entitlement

Full-time staff accrue 15 working days of sick leave per annum.  Part-time, part-year and sessional staff accrue sick leave on a pro-rata basis according to their proportion of full-time. Casual staff are not entitled to sick leave.

Medical certificates

A medical certificate is required when you take four or more consecutive days sick leave, and in circumstances set out in the sick leave guidelines under "Requirements to Provide Medical certificates". If it is not reasonably practicable for you to provide a medical certificate then you may make a statutory declaration.  You should submit this to your supervisor.

Applying for sick leave

You should notify your supervisor as soon as possible (within 24 hours of your normal commencement of duty) if you are unable to attend work due to illness or injury. You should also tell your supervisor how long you anticipate being absent from work.

Your sick leave absence needs to be approved by your supervisor.  Apply for this approval through neo “Employee Self Service”. The neo Leave User Guide provides guidance on applying for leave online.

If you are sick for an extended period of time you may post your medical certificate(s) to your supervisor and your supervisor can submit your sick leave application on your behalf. Refer to the Sick Leave Guidelines for further information.

Variations to your sick leave must be made by completing a Variation of Leave form.
