The information below is an overview of annual leave entitlements and arrangements. Full details of annual leave can be located in the Annual Leave Guidelines and in the relevant Collective Agreement.

Eligibility and entitlement

Full-time staff accrue 20 working days of annual leave per annum.  Part-time, part-year and sessional staff accrue annual leave on a pro-rata basis according to their proportion of full-time. Casual staff are not entitled to annual leave.

Planning annual leave

Plan ahead for your annual leave - discuss your leave plans with your supervisor when you develop your workplan. Academic staff should plan to take annual leave during non-teaching periods.

Academic and Support staff may apply to purchase additional leave of 2 or 4 weeks (pro-rated for part-time), under a Purchased Leave arrangement, subject to your supervisor’s approval.  It is essential that you read, understand and sign a Purchased Leave Agreement before taking additional leave.

Academic and Support staff may apply to cash out annual leave.  You must take leave equal to or greater than the amount of cashed out leave.  It is essential you read and understand the Cashed out Leave Application and forward the completed application form through your supervisor.

Applying for annual leave

You need the approval of your supervisor before you take annual leave. Apply for this approval through neo “Employee Self Service”. The neo Leave User Guide provides guidance on applying for leave online.

Variations to your annual leave must be made by completing a Variation of Leave form.
